Foreground Ship: The lantern is quite stunning and beautifully done. I like the rigging and woodwork on this as well, it is very interesting and detailed enough that it draws you in to see what all is there. One thing I might suggest is adding one or two human figures, possibly standing together as if talking, near the rail to give a bit better perspective of the size of the vessel and to show the vigilance of the crew.
Background Ship: This reminds me of old Japanese sailing ships due to the design. Again nicely rendered and it draws you to it wondering who is on that ship, the visible figures being a a nice touch, though I would shift one or add a fourth just to the stern of the bow most mast so as to make the figures more naturally placed rather than deliberate. The only part that strikes me as a bit off is the red light at the stern of the ship. I would suggest a more amber glow to it than red.
Sky Field and Atmosphere: The sky is beautiful and one I would expect at sea. The clouds look very natural and the lighting is nicely done, though I would make the light rays through the cloud edges a bit more prominent, but still remaining naturally subtle. The sun is well done without being overpowering to the piece.
The atmospheric haze as you move into the horizon is well done, giving depth to the image over all. Part of me does want to see a bit of haze on the background ship, just subtly to make it not quite as sharp and crisp so it looks as if there is a bit of distance there.
Birds: I like this flock. It looks quite natural in grouping and pose just as you would see in such flocks of this kind, scattered randomly and varying in distance enough to appear subtly different in size. This grouping feels very natural and realistic to me, much like video footage I have seem in various animal shows I have watched over the years.
Water: In contrast, this strikes me as very out of place. The color should be a much darker blue gray of the open sea and not so glassy smooth. Here is an example of what I mean: [link] . While still calm, the water does not look so clear and smooth like you would see in a pool or lagoon, which is what your image makes me think of. Another option would be to show part of a sandy atoll behind the background ship to account for the water looking the way it does [link][link][link] .
Overall: This is quite a beautiful image in general, but the water seems to detract from the rest of the composition.
Pretty nice render, has a good mood about it and does feel like a calm morning since it's like the sun is first appearing through the fog and the lights have yet to be put out for the coming day
The ships are fine, can't critique them anyway since Cornucopia models like that are usually pretty much perfect. It's the water that doesn't feel realistic to me. The shade of blue used for the fade out colour looks artificially bright, like it's a giant swimming pool . The fade out colour for the water probably could have been darker and less-saturated (which would also make the reflections look nicer too) or possibly even a dark green or teal colour. since that also would suit the time of day, weather and the fact they must be out in really deep waters. Water this colour can exist, but usually it's in shallow tropical coastlines and appears that best blue colour during bright sunny days. THough here it seems it should be darker and deeper
